Landmines are little bombs hidden in the ground.
They are put there during war.
After the war, the soldiers go home, but the bombs are still there.
They kill and injure people and animals long after the war is over.
There are landmines in many places around the world.
They are very hard to find.
Men and women look for them with metal detectors.
But, some landmines are not made of metal.
So, men and women look for them by poking the ground with a stick.
It is very dangerous work.
We would like to make a special “camera” that can see into the ground to find landmines.
Instead of light, it uses radar.
Here is a picture of a landmine using a regular camera.
We buried it in the ground, then took this picture using the radar camera.
The radar camera can “see” the mine right through the dirt.
